Immunity

Infection is a sign of impaired immunity. We are exposed to pathogens everyday but our susceptibility to falling ill depends on the strength of our defences.

Factors that can contribute to weakened immunity include:

  • Physiological, psychological and emotional stress
  • Depression and anxiety
  • Lack of sleep, rest and relaxation
  • Poor diet and lifestyle habits
  • Environmental exposure

Our gut health plays an important role in immunity with 70% of our immune system residing in the gut cells. Therefore intestinal microflora play a key role in immune function. Common causes of microflora imbalance include: antibiotic use, diet high in processed foods and sugars, insufficient fibre intake, stress, depression.

Emma will work with you to identify what may be causing your immune issues and provide advice on dietary and lifestyle changes that can boost immunity. Nutritional supplementation and herbal medicine may also be incorporated for additional immune support.
